Wise Thought Number Forty-Five

You can make fun of me
for reading comic books
All you like--
Cuz at least my superheroes
Have a significant moral depth,
unlike your idols.

Wise Thought Number Forty-Four

Not all of us are rich enough--
To afford happiness
But all of us are poor enough
To afford love.

Wise Thought Number Forty-Three

 Tonight
Before you go to sleep
Look up at your ceiling
And thank whoever you see there
For your traumatic childhoods.
You wouldn't be “normal”
Without them.

Wise Thought Number Forty-Two

 You'll go farther with honey
instead of vinegar.
Honestly--
Do you think the guys
behind Twitter
Would be nearly as successful
If they called their users
Twits?

Wise Thought Number Forty-One

There is an exception to every rule.
Like following one's conscious--
Follow it
Do what that little voice tells you
Listen
Unless--
Your conscious happens to be an
Amoral Bastard.

Wise Thought Number Forty

When someone is mean to you
Don't be mean back--
Wait for them to get up
And spit on their seat
When they're not looking.

Wise Though Number Thirty-Nine

I'm not sure what to do
when I go to the beach.
I mean, how long do you
Expect me
To stare at the ocean?
I'm pretty sure
I've documented
All the ways it can kill me
Within the first ten minutes.

Wise Thought Number Thirty-Eight

 Let's be honest
It's human nature--
I'm jealous of you
Like the crocodile
Is jealous of the shark.

Wise Thought Number Thirty-Seven

 People will tell you
Otherwise--
But outside of a zombie
Apocalypse--
'Bite me' is always an
Appropriate
Response.

Wise Thought Number Thirty-Six

Sometimes I wake up at night—
Frightened at the butterflies
Floating in my stomach,
Worried that they might be suffocating
In there, with no air to fly on.

because I don't feel cavalier today

I'd rather be the dust left from leaping flames
Than endure such a brief existence,
To burn so very true, and only leave a brightness
To linger behind the eyes.
Dust does not burn, it does not leap,
And yet it stays, reduced to essence,
Spread thin and bitter in the space left by greater things.
I'd rather be the dust, the ashes of a passion,
And be blown afar by a stronger wind--
For though ash has no beauty and no heat,
It has the memory still, of something that was.

Wise Thought Number Thirty-Four

College--
If you have time to
Eat and Sleep regularly,
You're doing it wrong.

Wise Thought Number Thirty-Three

I would really, really
Hate
To be a giraffe in a zoo.
To be tall enough to see
The Sky,
Yet still have feet planted
So firmly on the
Ground.

Wise Thought Number Thirty-Two

I can hear the
Pitter-patter
of the penguins
Pacing on
The ice.
Camels jabber
At each other,
Ranting the
The unfairness
Of the Desert.
Like monkeys
On a zip-line,
We all die
Sometime.
Let us then
Tango
Unto
Enlightenment.

Wise Thought Number Thirty-One

Baby Jesus is called
“tender and mild”
But anyone with
Two brain cells to rub
Together knows,
If babies were Tender,
They'd die the first time
You dropped them,
And they can hardly
Be called Mild in
Temperament.

Wise Thought Number Thirty

If “google” has become
A verb, representing the
Use of any search engine--
Will the accepted term for
A minority succeeding
In politics be known as
“Obama-ing?”

Wise Thought Number Twenty-Nine

There are some people
You look at them,
And you just know.
If they were given
A sword to hold--
They would stab
themselves
In the foot with it.
